New York: A 31-year-old Indian-origin man was shot dead while sitting in a vehicle parked in the parking lot outside his home in New York. The New York Post newspaper quoted the New York Police Department as saying that Satnam Singh was sitting in the car in the South Ozone Park section of Queens at around 3:46 pm on Saturday when he was attacked.
According to the New York Daily News report, Singh was sitting in a black colored Jeep Wrangler Sahara when a gunman came near him and started firing. Singh was taken from the spot to Jamaica Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Officials say Singh had taken his black Wrangler Sahara jeep from a friend sometime back as he had to pick someone up.
Neighbors claim different from police
Although police claim that the gunman reached Singh on foot, neighbors say the bullets came from the silver-coloured sedan when it passed by Singh’s jeep.
Neighbor Joan Cappellani said, “(Satnam Singh) was walking towards the car on 129th Street when the sedan car in which the attacker was traveling passed by.” “The attacker sitting in the sedan made a U-turn, came back, opened fire and fled,” he said. He said that this incident of shelling has been caught in the security cameras of his house, which is being reviewed by the police.
Case not arrested yet
Detectives are trying to find out whether the gunman was targeting Singh or intended to kill the owner of the SUV and does not know who is sitting inside. No arrest has been made in the case so far.
This incident has come to the fore when a few days ago, Indian national of Telangana (Indian National) Sai Charan was found injured by gunshot wounds inside his SUV in Baltimore, Maryland. Sai, 25, was immediately taken to a trauma centre, where he was declared brought dead on June 19.
