Gujarat’s Harmeet Desai and West Bengal’s Sutirtha Mukherjee won the men’s and women’s singles titles respectively in the table tennis events of the National Games here on Saturday. Local player Harmeet defeated Haryana’s Soumyajit Ghosh 4-0. Sutirtha defeated national champion Srija Akula 4-1 in the women’s singles final.

West Bengal Overall Champion
Sutirtha won three gold medals in the National Games. Apart from singles, he also achieved golden success in doubles and team events. Harmeet and another player from Gujarat Manush bagged two gold medals. Gujarat won the gold medal in the team event in the men’s section.

Manush also won the mixed doubles title along with Krutvika Sinha Rai. West Bengal became the overall champions in table tennis, winning four gold, one silver and three bronze medals. Gujarat finished second with three gold, three silver medals and Maharashtra (one silver, four bronze) finished third.

Sathiyan and Manika lost in the semi-finals: Saturday was actually the name of Harmeet and Sutirtha. Harmeet defeated top seed G Sathiyan 4-2 and Sutirtha defeated Manika Batra by the same margin in the semi-finals. In the final, Harmeet defeated Soumyajit 11-8, 11-4, 11-7, 11-8.
