38 players from Arunachal Pradesh will participate in the 36th National Games to be held in Gujarat from September 27. Athletes will participate in a range of events including boxing, judo, skating and weightlifting. Arunachal Olympic Association (AOA) gave this information.
An AOA team under the chairmanship of President and Education Minister Taba Tedir met the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Mama Natung in this regard. The team discussed in the review meeting focus on nine sports- Athletics, Taekwondo, Boxing, Karate, Weightlifting, Archery, Wushu, Badminton and Football. Meanwhile, the Association also demanded increase in financial assistance for organizing International Olympic Day, State Olympic Games and annual grant-in-aid for overall promotion of sports in the State with a view to prepare Olympians for the upcoming Olympic Games.
Natung assured AOA of all possible help from the government to promote sports in the state. The review meeting was attended by SSA President Bybang Taj, Principal Secretary (Finance) Sharat Chauhan, Sports Secretary Anirudh Singh and Director Tadar Appa, AOA General Secretary Bamang Tago and Treasurer Bulang Marik. Earlier, a minute’s silence was observed for Yora Tade, who passed away at a hospital in Chennai on Tuesday after suffering a serious injury during the ongoing Waco India Seniors and Masters National Kickboxing Championships.
