Two-time Olympic medalist Indian badminton star PV Sindhu stormed into the semi-finals of the Madrid Spain Masters. In men’s singles, Kidambi Srikanth crashed out in the quarterfinals. Sindhu has been successful in reaching the last four rounds of a tournament for the first time this year. PV defeated Mia Blichfeld of Denmark 21-14, 21-17.
Srikanth went down 18-21, 15-21 to top seed Kenta Nishimoto of Japan. This is his third defeat against this Japanese player. Seeded second, the 27-year-old Sindhu made a comeback this year after a long injury break and could not go past the second round of the opening tournaments this year.
The former world champion won the first game in complete dominance. She was trailing in the second game but came back from 6-12 down to win the match in straight games. Sindhu will take on unseeded Yeo Jia Min of Singapore in the semi-finals.
