Macron Names Outgoing Labor Minister Elisabeth Borne As New French Prime Minister: Elysee

French Politics: French Prime Minister Jean-Casteux resigned on Monday in a move expected after centrist Emmanuel Macron was re-elected last month, after which President Macron named Elizabeth Born as France’s new prime minister. In a statement issued from the French Presidential Office, Elysee, it has been confirmed that the new Prime Minister of France will be Elizabeth Bourne. Elizabeth Bourne has served as the Labor Minister of France on its initiative.

If Macron’s party wins a majority in the assembly, the prime minister will need to ensure that the pension changes promised by the president are brought into law, including raising the minimum retirement age from 62 to 65 years. Macron also promised that the new prime minister would be directly in charge of the “green plan”, which is seeking to accelerate the implementation of France’s climate policies. In his second term, Macron vowed to go “doubly fast” to curb greenhouse gas emissions.

Born is the second woman to hold the position after Edith Cresson, who was prime minister under Socialist President François Mitterrand from 1991–1992.

Played the responsibility of Labor Minister in Macron’s government in the year 2020
Earlier in the year 2020, Elizabeth Bourne served as Labor Minister in Macron’s previous government. Prior to this, she was the Minister of Transport and the then Minister of Ecological Transition, also under Macron. “Casteaux came to the Elysee (Rashtrapati Bhavan) on Monday to formally tender his resignation, after which his resignation was accepted by the President,” a statement issued from the Elysee, France’s presidential office, said. Pressure on new PM to perform well in elections
The new prime minister’s first mission will be to ensure that Macron’s centrist party and its allies do well in France’s parliamentary elections in June. The vote, scheduled for two rounds, will determine which group has the most seats in the National Assembly, which has the final say on the Senate in France’s law-making process. Macron also promised a bill to address the rising cost of living in France, where food and energy prices are rising. It will be prepared by his new government and is expected to be presented right after the parliamentary election.
