Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said on Saturday that 1500 players from the country will participate in the Khelo India Youth Winter Games to be held in Jammu and Kashmir. These games will start from February 10 in Gulmarg. Anurag along with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha unveiled the mascot, anthem and jersey of this Youth Games at Raj Bhavan.
Anurag said that Khelo India Winter Games will encourage the youth of Jammu and Kashmir towards sports and will also promote tourism in the state. The players and officials are mesmerized by the beauty of Kashmir and the changes Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed over the years. The start of Khelo India Winter Games will send a message to the country that Jammu and Kashmir is waiting for people to witness the event.
He said that due to Kovid, the Khelo India Winter Games could not be organized last year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi thought that more and more youth should participate in sports. The first edition of Khelo India Winter Games was to be held in 2022. In the 2020 and 2021 editions, J&K had topped the medal tally.
