,Only sells condoms, does not sell pan masala, cigarettes or tobacco.. what’s the problem! One of the characters in the film is told in a light-hearted manner. The socially relevant comedy film ‘Janhit Mein Jari’ speaks volumes about a serious topic like safe sex. Thousands of women die every year due to abortion in India. And the story of the film is woven around this truth.
Manokamna Tripathi aka Manu (Nushrat Bharucha) living in a small town in Madhya Pradesh is an educated and open-minded girl. She wants to stand on her own feet before marriage, wants financial independence. In such a situation, he gets a job as a sales representative in a local condom making company. The salary is very good, so she gets the job. There is tension in the family for some time. Neighbors say-“You sell condoms as a girl, shit.. what a dirty job..But Manu sticks to her decision.
Here is the entry of Ranjan (Anud Singh Dhaka) in his life.. The two grow closer and soon get married. But her in-laws do not know about her job. While she is balancing her life… a tragic turn of events prompts Manu to act more emotionally and responsibly than ever before. Will she be able to keep her orthodox family by her side or will she walk alone on her journey to create awareness among the society?
The film’s director Jai Basantu Singh and writer Raaj Shaandilyaa have tackled a serious subject in a very interesting way through one-liners. Till the end, the film is not just about selling condoms, but it also touches on serious issues like abortion, contraception, safe sex, patriarchy and many more. The film seems a bit stretched in the second half, but keeps your attention till the climax. The cinematography and production design of the film is commendable.
It would not be wrong to say that Nushrat Bharucha carries the film on her shoulders. She looks strong in the character of Condom Seller Girl, as well as touches the heart in the emotional scenes. Anud Singh Dhaka is well suited to the character of an ideal son and ideal husband. Although his character could have been refined a little more, depth could have been added to it. At the same time, Paritosh Tripathi, Vijay Raj, Brijendra Kala deserve special mention in the supporting cast. The characters played by him keep the film tied from beginning to end.
Nusrat’s character in the film says, “People don’t want to talk about condoms.. that’s why today we are 40 to 140 crores…”. Amidst the ignorance and ignorance of the people towards population control.. ‘Release in public interest’ can be called a socially relevant and important film. 4 stars for ‘Janhit Mein Jaari’ from Filmbeat.
