The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has sought response from the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) for not appointing a CEO as per the constitution laid down so far. The IOA elections were held on 10 December. As per the new IOA constitution, it was to appoint a CEO with an annual turnover of Rs 25 crore within a month. Now IOA has sought three months time from IOC citing non-availability of CEO.
PT Usha replied
IOA President PT Usha has written to IOC Assistant Director International Relations Jerome Poivey that an advertisement was put out on her behalf for the appointment of the CEO, the last date of which was January 31. Seven people applied, with only one meeting the criteria. The matter was placed in the executive committee, in which it has been decided to withdraw the advertisement afresh.
Advertisement conditions will be prepared afresh
The IOC has been told that this time the advertisement will be withdrawn with detailed and new conditions. The fresh conditions for advertisement will be decided once again in the Executive Committee. The date of the executive meeting has not been decided yet. It remains to be seen whether the terms of the advertisement will be as per the IOA’s constitution as approved by the IOC or not.
Sources reveal that most of the IOA members are in favor of relaxing the conditions set for the CEO. Whether the IOC gives three months time to the IOA to appoint the CEO remains to be seen. The meeting of the IOC Executive Board has started on Monday, which will run for two days. If this matter is kept in this, then the IOA can once again get into trouble.
