The Supreme Court on Monday said that a neutral person will be appointed to run the administration of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). Also directed the Sports Secretary to talk to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in this matter. The IOC had on September 8 warned the IOA to resolve all operational matters and hold elections by December. Otherwise IOA will be banned.
After Narinder Batra resigned from the post of IOA President, the IOC had said that it would not recognize the working and interim president. All matters will be discussed with Secretary General Rajeev Mehta.
A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Hima Kohli asked the Sports Secretary to talk to the Director on Olympic Solidarity and No Objection Certificate in the IOC and come to the court for the next hearing. The next hearing in this case will be on September 22.
During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said- A former Supreme Court judge can be appointed for the IOA’s constitutional amendment and election. The second suggested that a neutral person be appointed, who would coordinate with regard to the September 8 letter from the IOC.
