Reliance Jio’s 4G services have been made available to all for free from Monday with the ‘Jio Welcome Offer’. Reliance Jio Welcome Offer can be availed till 31st December 2016. After this, customers will have to choose one of the tariff plans announced by the company to use the SIM.

How good it would be, if you do not change your mobile number and can also use Jio network. For this you have to use Mobile Number Portability (MNP). In July last year, the Department of Telecom made MNP service mandatory for all telecom operators. With the help of this, users can keep their old number running even after changing company or location. With the help of MNP service, customers of Airtel, Vodafone, Idea and other telecom companies across the country can choose Reliance Jio. The number will also not change, and along with it, the benefit of free preview offer will also be available.
You can use Reliance Jio SIM without changing mobile number in this way
First of all, you have to inform your existing telecom operator about porting out the number. For this, you have to SMS to 1900 by writing PORT. In response, you will get a unique porting code from the number 1901. Its validity will be 15 days.

Now visit any Reliance Mobile store or retailer. Here you will also have to enter the porting code while filling the customer application form. Submit the required documents (ID proof, address proof and a passport photo) along with it. In response to this, you will be given a Reliance Jio SIM card from Reliance. After activation, this SIM will also use your old number and your old SIM will be locked forever.
It may take up to 7 days for Reliance Jio SIM to be activated. Apart from this, you will be charged Rs 19. During porting, it is possible that your number may not work for two-three hours. This will happen before the Reliance Jio SIM is activated. As soon as the no service message starts appearing on your existing SIM, then you should put the Reliance Jio SIM in your phone.
Once ported, the Jio SIM should be activated. Keep in mind that you cannot re-port to any other telecom operator for 90 days after getting the number ported. The funny thing is that Makesh Ambani has requested other telcos not to create hurdles for their customers to use MNP.
