He is currently in Doha on a two-day visit. He was invited by Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted that Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar attended the inauguration of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 along with the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and other dignitaries. Apart from attending the opening ceremony of the Football World Cup, the Vice President will also interact with members of the Indian community during the visit.
In fact, Indians have also played an important role in this World Cup and it is only with their support that Qatar has been able to organize the World Cup. The Vice President also held a meeting with world leaders during the opening ceremony at the Al Bayt Stadium in Doha. India and Qatar will further enhance their close and friendly ties with multifaceted partnership in areas including trade, energy, security, defence, health, culture, education and other sectors, the statement said.
Bilateral trade between the two countries had crossed $15 billion in the last financial year. Qatar plays an important partner in India’s energy security. India and Qatar will celebrate 50 years of establishment of full diplomatic relations next year.
