Football star Cristiano Ronaldo’s team Portugal has reached the last 16 of the FIFA World Cup 2022. In their group match, Portugal beat Uruguay 2–0. Along with this, Portugal also took revenge for the 2018 defeat from Uruguay. Bruno Fernandes scored both the goals for Portugal in this match. Although he missed out on his hat-trick due to the excellent performance of the Uruguayan goalkeeper, he contributed significantly to take his team to the next round.
Bruno Fernandes scored the first goal in the 54th minute to put his side ahead 1-0 in the Group H match against the South American team at the Lusell Stadium. After this, in the injury time of the second half, he scored the second goal to increase Portugal’s lead to 2-0 and almost decided the victory of his team. In this match, he had a great chance to complete a hat-trick, but the ball hit the goal post and he could not score the third goal.
Cristiano Ronaldo claimed a goal in the 54th minute when he thought he had scored, but the goal was awarded to Fernandes as the ball went into the net after his cross.
Maximiliano Gomez tried to score for Uruguay in the 75th minute of the match, but his shot was off target. In the second half too, the Uruguay team created chances to score goals, but could not capitalize on them.
Both the teams could not score any goal in the first half. In such a situation, Uruguayan players were dreaming of defeating Portugal again like in 2018, but Bruno Fernandes did not let this happen.
Legendary players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suarez and Edinson Roberto Cavani could not score any goal in this match. Uruguay midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur created a few chances for the South American side but neither player could finish properly. After this match, Portugal are on top of Group H, while Uruguay are third behind Ghana.
