The Committee of Administrators (CoA) has termed as “unfortunate” the decision of FIFA to suspend the Football Federation of India (AIFF) despite consensus on issues related to elections and constitution. The CoA said in a statement, “We are surprised that this decision of FIFA has come after extensive discussions were going on for a few days between all the stakeholders including FIFA-AFC, AIFF, COA and the Sports Ministry as per the order of the Supreme Court. The CoA was discussing with the stakeholders along with conducting the elections as per the Supreme Court’s decision on 3 August. Click here to read the full story…

The COA said- FIFA, through the Ministry of Sports, had also suggested that the Executive Committee could have 23 members, including six eminent players. The electoral college will be elected by 17 members, including the president, general secretary, treasurer, vice-president and joint secretary. These include six players, four men and two women. CoA said- Arrangements were being made to conduct the elections of AIFF under an independent committee as per the order of the Supreme Court. The whole process was being done according to the letter issued by FIFA on 15 August. COA member SY Qureshi said, “While things were being worked out, FIFA ordered the suspension.” He expressed hope that the matter would be resolved. Click here to read the event…
CoA Chairman Justice Anil Dave said- Efforts were being made to bring Indian football in the right direction. In such a situation, the move of FIFA is unfortunate. It is indeed condemnable that the tenure of AIFF was already completed almost two years back. It was continued in a completely undemocratic and illegal manner, then no action was taken. Former Indian football captain Bhaichung Bhutia said- It is very unfortunate that FIFA has suspended Indian football. To improve the system, all the stakeholder federations, state associations should come together and work for the betterment of Indian football. This is also a chance to organize football in the country.

Shabbir Ali

Former Indian footballer Shabbir Ali said – Whatever happened is very unfortunate. Hopefully the suspension will be lifted soon after the election. Under-17 Women’s World Cup should be held in India. Hope everything goes well and this tournament will be played in India.

Former football player Mehtab Hussain said – Both the former officer and the Committee of Administrators (CoA) are responsible for this. When FIFA had given instructions to hold elections as soon as possible, then what were they waiting for. We wasted time and are now paying the penalty. This has caused loss to the players and fans.
