Akanksha Kumari is the first woman mining engineer to work in an underground mine. Hailing from Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand, Akanksha has graduated from Birsa Institute of Technology Sindri. At the age of just 25, Akanksha Kumari joined Coal India Limited (CIL) and became the second woman mining engineer of CIL. Akanksha became the first Indian woman to join CIL in the Churi underground mines in North Karanpura area in Jharkhand. Prior to joining CIL, Akanksha worked for three years at Hindustan Zinc Limited’s Balaria mine in Rajasthan.

Shivani Meena, the first excavation engineer

Like Akanksha Kumari, Shivani Meena of Rajasthan has also created history in the field of engineering. Shivani Meena is the first excavation engineer of CCL. He made a special contribution to the Rajrappa project of CCL. Shivani worked in a mechanized open quarry in the Rajrappa area. She is the first woman engineer in the excavation cadre to work in an open mine. Shivani Meena hails from Bharatpur, Rajasthan. After completing his Electrical Engineering from IIT Jodhpur, he took over the responsibility of maintenance and repair of heavy machines.
