Tennis legend Rafael Nadal has not been selected in Spain’s squad for the group stage of next month’s Davis Cup final. On the other hand, Novak Djokovic has been kept in the team of Serbia. The 36-year-old Nadal had won the Australian Open and French Open titles this year. Nadal is the only male player to have won 22 Grand Slams.
Nadal did not play in the semi-finals of the Wimbledon Open. He had to withdraw from the match against Australia’s Nick Kyrgios due to injury. Nadal is returning from the Cincinnati Masters this week. He is preparing for the US Open. Nadal was successful in winning the Davis Cup tournament for the fifth time with Spain in 2019. The team has high hopes from young star Carlos Alcarez in the absence of Nadal.
Spain will play in Group B against Serbia, Canada and South Korea. Their first match against Serbia will be from 13 to 18 September. Djokovic is set to return after winning his seventh Wimbledon title and 2nd Grand Slam last month. After that tournament, he has not yet come on the court.
