CWG 2022: Murali Sreeshankar creates history, won silver medal in long jump…

India’s long jumper Murali Sreeshankar has won India’s second medal in track and field. Sreeshankar won the silver medal in the final of Men’s Long Jump with a best jump of 8.08m. With this, Sreeshankar has become the first male athlete from India to win a silver medal for India in the long jump event in the history of the Commonwealth Games. Earlier, women’s former athletes Anju Bobby George and Prajusha Malaikhal have won medals. Anju Bobby won bronze in long jump in 2002 Commonwealth Games and Prajusha won silver in 2010 Commonwealth Games. At the same time, Suresh Babu won a bronze medal in the 1978 Commonwealth Games in men. This is the second silver medal for India after Prajusha in the long jump.

Sreeshankar’s medal was India’s first medal of the seventh day. Sreeshankar was followed by para-powerlifter Sudhir who won the gold medal. Murali Sreeshankar had a best of 7.84m in his first three attempts. Sreeshankar made the first attempt of 7.60 meters, the second attempt of 7.84 meters and the third attempt of 7.84 metres. Sreeshankar finished sixth after the first three attempts.

At the same time, Sreeshankar did so in the fifth attempt. Jovan Van Vooren of South Africa stood third with a jump of 8.06m. He got the bronze medal. Another Indian athlete Mohammad Anees Yahia finished fifth after six attempts with a best attempt of 7.97. Yahia made a best attempt of 7.72m in the first three attempts. Yahia’s first attempt was a foul. At the same time, in the second attempt, he jumped 7.65 meters. Yahia jumped 7.72 meters in the third attempt. Yahia finished eighth after three attempts. Yahia jumped 7.74 meters in the fourth attempt. Yahia’s fifth attempt was 7.58 meters and the sixth attempt was 7.97 meters.
