Veteran Indian boxer MC Mary Kom withdrew from Commonwealth Games trials. Mary Kom had to take this decision due to a leg injury on Friday. Mary Kom had appeared for the 48kg trials but had to be strong to withdraw in the first round itself due to an injury.
Haryana’s Neetu benefited from the withdrawal of six-time world champion Mary Kom. She reached the final of the Commonwealth Games trials at the Indira Gandhi International Stadium in Delhi. Mary Kom last won a gold medal in the Commonwealth Games (2018). She fell in the ring after getting injured in the first round of the trial match.
The 39-year-old boxer showed the courage to fight despite being injured, but after some time her balance deteriorated and she sat down due to pain in her left leg. Mary Kom had to leave the ring. Due to this the referee declared Neetu the winner. Mary Kom had withdrawn from the World Championships and Asian Games to focus on the Commonwealth Games.
