Pakistan Boxing Federation is in trouble these days. Two of his boxers who had gone to Birmingham to attend the Commonwealth Games have gone missing. The federation said on Wednesday that both the players went missing after the end of the Commonwealth Games. Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) secretary Nasser Tang said two players, Suleiman Baloch and Nazirullah, went missing shortly before they left for Islamabad.
This incident of missing players is not new for Pakistan. Two months ago, swimmer Faizan Akbar went missing from the FINA World Championships in Hungary. Akbar did not even take part in the championship. He disappeared with his passport and other documents just hours after arriving in Budapest. They have not been traced since June.
The Commonwealth Games were held in Birmingham from 28 July to 8 August. Describing the incident, Tang said, “All travel documents, including the passports of Suleiman and Nazirullah, are still with the federation officials. These officers went to Birmingham with the team.
Nasser Tang further said that the team management has informed the Pakistan High Commission in Britain and the relevant authorities in London. He further said that the documents of both the players were maintained as per the standard operating procedure for all athletes. The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has shown proactiveness regarding this incident. It has constituted a four-member committee to probe.
In boxing, Pakistan did not get a single medal in the Commonwealth Games. She won two gold medals in weightlifting and javelin. Pakistan got eight medals in total.
