National record holder Murali Sreeshankar has reached the final after finishing on top in the qualification round of Commonwealth Games long jump. At the same time, Muhammad Anas Yahia qualified for the final after finishing in the top eight. The final will be on August 4.
23-year-old Murali has staked claim for the gold medal. Murali was the only participant to cross the qualifying mark of eight metres. Murali topped Group A with a jump of 8:05m in the first attempt.
It is worth mentioning that in the recently concluded World Championships in Eugen, USA, Sreeshankar made another personal best of this season by jumping 8.36m. He finished seventh in the final. Yahia finished third in Group B with a distance of 7.68 metres. Yahia’s personal best of this season is 8.15m.
