Reigning world champion boxer Nikhat Zareen in the 50kg category and Olympic bronze medalist Lovleen Borgohain in the 70kg category have confirmed their place in the Indian squad for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. In the trials held in Delhi on Saturday, both of them won and dominated with their performance.

Two-time Strandja Memorial gold medalist Nikhat defeated Meenakshi of Haryana 7-0 in the final. At the same time, Lovlina defeated Railway Ki Pooja 7-0. Boxer Neetu secured a place in the team for the Commonwealth Games in the 48kg category and Jasmine in the 60kg category.

Two-time former youth world champion Neetu registered a 5-2 win over 2019 silver medalist Manju Rani. Haryana’s Neetu has also had a great year and she also won a gold medal at the Strandja Memorial this year.

2021 Asian Youth Boxing Championships bronze medalist Jasmine defeated 2022 World Championships bronze medalist Parveen Hooda in the light middleweight final. This year the Commonwealth Games are to be held in Birmingham from 28 July to 8 August.

The squads for the Commonwealth Games are as follows: Neetu (48kg), Nikhat Zareen (50kg), Jasmine (60kg), Lovlina Borgohain (70kg).
