With just four days left for the 44th tournament of the Chess Olympiad to begin, a test competition was organized in Chennai on Sunday to take stock of the preparations. Before this prestigious competition, a special race of Olympiad was organized in the city on Sunday in which several thousand people took part.

Ministers of State like MA Subramaniam, TM Anbarasan and PK Shekhar Babu were also present during the competition. One thousand 414 players took part in the competition held in different age groups. The organizers claimed to have attempted to enter the Noble Book of World Records by organizing a trial competition with 1414 players.

Chess Olympiad is being organized in India for the first time. Players from more than 180 countries will participate in the Olympiad. India will field three teams each in both the Open and women’s categories. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the tournament at the Nehru Indoor Stadium here on July 28 in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. The matches will be played from July 29 and will continue till August 10.
