Bajaj introduced its popular scooter Chetak in electric avatar in October 2019, it also got a good response initially but due to Kovid there was a reduction in production. In such a situation, the company had also stopped taking its booking for some time, while initially it was brought in only 2 cities but now the company has brought it to all the major cities across the country.
Now when the situation improves, the demand for this electric scooter is increasing and keeping this in mind, the company is setting up a separate production line for the manufacture of Chetak. Bajaj estimates that they are going to produce around 5000 units of Chetak every month, the company produced 2500 units in the month of May which was the highest till date.
Bajaj Chetak has received more than 16,000 bookings till date and more than 14,000 Chetak scooters have been delivered. The company is getting demand from many parts of the country, so taking a step in this direction, the company has decided to accelerate the production. The company will increase production in the coming times and will produce 800 electric scooters per day.
Talking about the new plant, this plant of the company is spread over 6.5 acres and here 5 lakh two-wheelers can be produced every year. The company can contact the equipment suppliers online and they will get the equipment within an hour. 90% of the equipment for this electric scooter will be sourced from local vendors who are present within a radius of 25 km of the plant.
Knock in new city
The company has recently launched Chetak in Solapur, Maharashtra. Bajaj Chetak electric scooter is available at an ex-showroom price of Rs 1,34,814 in Solapur. Bajaj Chetak has been launched in a single variant. Although the company is giving many color options in it. The Bajaj Chetak electric scooter can be booked on the official website of Bajaj Auto by paying a token amount of Rs 2,000.
The Bajaj Chetak is powered by a 3.8kW electric motor with a 3kWh IP67 rating lithium-ion battery that is non-removable. The scooter has two riding modes – Eco and Sport. This scooter gives a range of 95 kms in Eco mode, while 85 kms in Sport mode. Its top speed is 60 km/h. It takes 5 hours for this scooter to be fully charged from the 5 amp power socket.
Iconic retro design has been given to Bajaj Chetak. It gets LED derailleurs and headlamps, digital instrument console, USB port, alloy wheels and disc brakes. The company has also given a live tracking feature in it, with the help of which the scooter can also be tracked through the smartphone application. It also has a reverse mode.
