Who was Tara Rani Srivastava

Tara Rani Srivastava played an important role in getting India’s independence from the British. Although not many people know his name in Indian history. Tara Rani Srivastava was born in Saran district of Bihar. At an early age, Tara Rani was married to a man named Phulendu Babu.

At a very young age, Tara Rani got involved in the freedom struggle. Her husband Phulendu Babu was a freedom fighter and a follower of Gandhiji. He used to take out processions against the British rule. From here Tara Rani also started registering her participation in the freedom struggle. At that time there were many restrictions on married women, but Tara Rani not only participated in the freedom movement by leaving the house, but also encouraged other women to join this struggle. Her husband Phulendu supported her.

Struggle intensifies after husband’s death

Phulendu Babu used to take out protests and processions during the Quit India Movement. Meanwhile, on 12 August 1942, Phulendu Babu was taking out a procession till Saran Police Station. There was a plan to hoist the tricolor of India by taking down the flag of the British government from the roof of his police station. However, the British lathi-charged the procession and started firing at the people. Phulendu Babu was shot by the British in front of Tara Rani. The husband was injured in front, but Tara did not become weak.

Tara had the tricolor in her hand, but she did not leave the tricolor even after seeing her husband in this condition. Tore a piece of the sari and tied a bandage to Phulendu Babu. Dropped them at a safe place and continued the demonstration. He hoisted the tricolor after reaching the police station. However, by the time she returned to her husband, she was a martyr. She did not let her husband’s martyrdom go away. Even after his death, the fight for freedom struggle continued. The flame of freedom was kept burning and in the end the struggle of all the freedom fighters including Tara Rani and Phulendu Babu paid off. The country got independence on August 15, 1947.
