21-year-old Brendan Nakashima of America defeated Marcos Giron 6-4, 6-4 in straight sets to win his first trophy on the ATP Tour in the form of the San Diego Open. It was a wonderful week for the twenty one year old player, who won this victory in his hometown. His rival, Giron, is also from Southern California and was living in San Diego until recently.

Ranking improved by 21 places
Nakashima, who is playing his third final on the ATP Tour, also made a significant improvement in the rankings this week. He has improved 21 places to be at 48th position. This is his best ranking in three years. Last time he was successful in reaching the semi-finals of this tournament. Giron has moved up from 58 to 53rd ranking despite a loss in the final.

Nakashima, who took a break point in the first set, took a 2-0 lead in the second set. He received around 75 lakh rupees ($93,090) in prize money, which was half the amount he received when he reached the third round of the US Open.
