Along with winning this title, Djokovic remained unbeaten this season. He also got the biggest pay-cheque in tennis. He got Rs 38.78 crore as reward. Now Djokovic will start the next season with the Australian Open. Last year, he was not allowed to play this tournament due to visa reasons. However, according to media reports, they may be allowed this year.
Djokovic defeated Rude 7–5, 6–3 in the final of the ATP Finals. In the first set, Rude gave a tough fight to Djokovic. However, 21-time Grand Slam winner Djokovic easily defeated Ruud in the second set. Djokovic, 35, is the oldest player to win this title. After winning the title, he said that this journey was not easy for him. Djokovic defeated Daniil Medvedev of Russia in the semi-finals. The match went to three sets.
After a year of highs and lows, Djokovic ended the year on a positive note. He said that now he will take a break for a few weeks. Djokovic said that this year was a bit difficult because he had to get permission to go anywhere. However, he is happy now. In terms of winning the most Grand Slams, Djokovic is second only to Spain’s Rafael Nadal. Nadal has 22 Grand Slam titles. If Djokovic plays in the Australian Open, he will try to match this record.
