India’s badminton player HS Prannoy made a winning debut at the All England Championships. Prannoy defeated Jiju Wei Wang of Chinese Taipei in straight games in the men’s singles match. World number nine Prannoy won the match 21-19, 22-20 in 49 minutes to enter the second round.
Prannoy took his record against Wang to 5-3 (W-L). The 30-year-old Prannoy from Kerala will play the winner of the third-seeded Indonesia’s Anthony Sinisuka and Kantaphon Wangcharon in the second round. In the first game, Prannoy opened up a comfortable 11-4 lead but then committed a mistake and Wang reduced the lead to 14-11. Meanwhile, Prannoy made a good comeback to make it 18-12. Then the score became 19-19, but in the end Prannoy won the game 21-19.
The second game saw a tough fight between the two players. Wang was ahead with a 7-2 lead. But Prannoy had taken a one-point lead till the break. After that the score was tied at 16-16 but Prannoy took a 19-17 lead before Wang leveled the scores at 19-19. But that could not stop Prannoy from winning the second game.
